My direction since 2004 has been to head west. First to Utah, to ski, climb mountains, and work as a reporter and editor for Park City’s Park Record Newspaper by day and volunteer at the local radio station by night. Then, in 2008, to California, where I enrolled in UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism to study new media, television and documentary film.
In the Bay Area, I helped launch a hyper-local site for north Oakland and The Bay Area Blog for The New York Times. I also designed a site to showcase the work of the television program.
In the last three months I worked for YouTube’s news team to try to make citizen-reported videos useful and accessible to members of the media and to the public. The strategies were tested in two news experiments: A news feed on CitizenTube.com and ABC 7 News’ uReport powered by YouTube, a pilot local news collaboration that aims to cover the Bay Area as comprehensively as possible with user-generated video.
My multimedia work, videos and reporting have appeared on The Huffington Post, MSNBC.com, and in The New York Times. Several of those pieces can also be found here and on Vimeo. Thanks for taking a look,
